Match Report vs [ADP] -- Posted by ICECaNNoN on Thursday, June 19 2003
On Sunday the 15th of June, *AUS* took on [ADP] in another www.thebattleground.org VC CTF AUS/NZ ladder match. This time it was a 9v9 on the Winshop ISP server, first of all a big thanks to Winshop for hosting this game, it really was a great change from usual server problems. *AUS* whent into the first map with a hope of getting 1 flag before the 2nd map. Paul, ICE CaNNoN, WildCat, Sw1fty, Overlord, Gunther, Nads, Justice and near the end Ace made up the first maps team. We clashed in the middle for most of the game, Overlord was having stints with his garand but mostly laying traps and blasting away with his shotty, Gunther was ripping it up with his garand, justo was being the radio star calling in strikes, all the rest of us were using m16s or thompsons. We tried to attack various times, but it was very hard moving forward with 9 adp blokes hiding behind trees and walls etc ambushing us as their form of defence. This happened for most of the map, due to these tactics ADP were unable to really push forward as *AUS* could cut them down, and if they tried to move forward *AUS* could get through their defences. Late in the map *AUS* managed to get away with the flag, I grabbed the flag when all of ADP were down, and ran.. some confusion over teamspeak brought a mixup in flag running routes, and amidst the confusion the ADP spawn timer ran out, suddenly 9 blokes were placed back on the field, and the bodies hit the floor... Garands, 16's, Thompsons, Ak's, Draugnovs, pps's all engaging in a firefight... The confusion had resulted in ICE CaNNoN running the flag into a vunerable area which was confused with a safe area, he was shot in the back by about 3 players simultaneously. Ace who was providing cover picked it up, but was shot immediately, it took 3 blokes to stop ace from getting away, some more *AUS* went searching for the flag but were unable to find it in the battle, the map soon ended with the scores 0-0
(First map report by ICE CaNNoN Maj - 2ic)
The second round saw a change of teams with the game now 9v9. Ace, Cow Killer, Fate, Wildcat, Overlord, Ranger-Bob, Paul, Jios, Nads entered the server and exploded of the start to quickly encircle the US base in a pincer formation. With Ace, Fate and Wildcat arriving at the US end of the ravine they began to pick off any and all enemies until an eerie silence swallowed the Flag Bay and the window for the run was open. Ace was able to steal the flag and escape to cap thanks to the cover provided by Fate and Wildcat. From the adrenalin of the 1st cap we headed straight back in a similar formation only to be bogged down by a now determined opponent.
A lot of the fighting for the next 5 minutes took place in the ADP’s half of the map with them breaking through to our flag on a few occasions. Another window for AUS opened as Overlord dropped a strike with such precision that ADP found 5 of their members taken down. Once again AUS piled into the spawn and bullets began to fly everywhere as they spawned and we charged. Eventually Ace was able getaway with minimal health and make it back to cap. The next 15 minutes of the match was a see-saw event as both teams were able to steal the flag but drop it agonisingly close to their own flag. AUS now instilled with confidence made a crucial error with too many pushing up for another attack, the entire team barr 1 or 2 went up the middle of the map as ADP were able to sneak through the ravine and steal the flag and make it back for a cap. This brought our team back down to earth and once again we fell back into smarter play with a focus on defence. We had 10 minutes to hold out and only 4 were left up front to harass the enemy. We were struck with problems when Justice got connection problems and was disconnected from the match. Nads stepped in after a few minutes of being a man down and worked the right side well with Paul to shutdown the enemy, together with defending the 2 secured AUS’s flag for the duration of the match. A congrats is in order for Cow Killer who with a dead microphone was able to still scout the enemy attack routes and pick them off at the same time. Ranger Bob and Jios the ever silent achievers continuously cut off enemy advances and held back at base when required. All round it was a great round for AUS and it needed to be against a tough opposition. The match ended at 2-1. We thank ADP for bearing with us through a few technical difficulties and also pass on a thank you to Goona who was able to secure the Winshop server for our first ever 9v9 match.
