Statistics are now being recorded! -- Posted by ICECaNNoN on Sunday, November 23 2003
After sorting some stuff out with the stats we are now recording statistical records on our servers. The stats will be manually updated periodically (hopefully daily but circumstances can prevent this from happening on occasion) you can check them at: http://vc.aus-squad.com/stats/ and you can see when they were last updated there if you are unsure of wether your last game has been uploaded yet or not.
Have fun!

Myths and Tips -- Posted by ICECaNNoN on Thursday, November 20 2003
Myth: Maps with vehicles work on the internet, or they will in later patches. Nope... The developers have made it clear that they dont support Vehicles in MP, if you want a game that you can drive vehicles in MP, try BF-42 or Halo. :)
Tips: In patch 1.4(released this week, grab it from ogn.com.au) Pterodon added a feature that allows key bindings. Some of you may know these from other games, but for those that dont key bindings are a feature of many games that allows you to format keys so that when you press them you type a message. In Vietcong you can also make them say a voice command. For example, say you format f1 to say "I'm going in" on team chatand say the voice command "I need backup" when you press f1 in game it will do that... in VC you can format key bindings by going to your Vietcong\user\mp_bindkeys.txt file... and following the instructions. Here is some that I (ICE CaNNoN) use personnaly:
F1 =say Hey all
F2 =
F3 =say_team I need some backup, menusound 2 1
F4 =say_team I got 'em, menusound 4 3
F5 =say_team TRAP! Watchout!, menusound 1 1
F6 =say_team I'm going in, menusound 2 2
F7 =say_team I'm on point!, menusound 1 2
F8 =say_team I'm ready!, menusound 4 4
F9 =say_team ENEMY!, menusound 4 7
F10 =
F11 =say Visit *AUS* at http://vc.aus-squad.com!
F12 =
f2 is default screenshot key and f10 is something else that maked my game go slow when I pressed it... So stay away from those 2..

Farwell Ace -- Posted by ICECaNNoN on Thursday, November 20 2003
I would like to take the opportunity to farewell our fearless leader Ace. Ace has decided to go on inactive status for a while, probably until Fist Alpha. This means he will be standing down from his role as commander, server admin and staff at TheBattleGround.org.
Ace started off as a gamer just addicted to VietCong. I remember seeing him in his first match against RKn in the demo, I put him in the game which was very close at the time and was shocked to see how well he played, I'd never played with him before then.
From then he progressed, he seemed to be continually on the forums at the same time as he was continually in game. He was the perfect choice for our commander.
From then Ace went on to lead us to many triumphs, he lead with diplomacy that surpasses most politicians. Whenever anyone else was steamed up, he thougth with a cool head and made the right decision. When we played against Oz, and the debacle that surrounded that. Everyone in *AUS* was furious, if anyone else was commander then a rash decision would of been made. But not Ace, he thought with a cool head and decided we should forfeit the match so that the VC community would not be split.
Ace's help to the community didnt end with *AUS*, Ace made friends in USA servers, and became a beta tester around 1.2 time... He helped the developers test new patches, sometimes he stayed up for most of the night so he could catch the official tests. Ace then applied for *AUS* to become beta testers too, and we all tested 1.29.
Then after 1.3, Ace became a team leader of the United Admins Vietcong anti cheat team. He worked in conjunction with Pterodon, UA and a team of members to help create the HradBa anti cheat software. He worked very hard on this, often chatting to the makers of VC directly over ICQ. He continued commanding *AUS*, beta testing and working on HradBa for a while. As well as adminning the *AUS* server, which was one of a small few servers that had almost immediate kicking of cheats.
He started to become burnt out. Members from the public abused him for his skill in game, calling him a cheat and so forth, even using his name in game. He began to lose interest in VC gaming, then when CoD came along he became addicted to that, and decided to have a break from VC for a while.
Ace has become a great friend to the whole VC team, and continues this in COD with ]X[. A big thanks goes to him for all of his efforts! Your a legend Ace.
VC Myths and Tips -- Posted by ICECaNNoN on Wednesday, November 5 2003
I have decided to start posting some VC myths and tips periodically, to help keep the VC community informed of some stuff they may not know... I'll start with 1 myth and 1 tip..
Myth: "Spawn timer can be changed" - no it cant! There is a spawn timer for each map, say on NVA its 25 seconds, this means every 25 secs anyone who is dead spawns (with the exception of anyone that died in the last 10 seconds of the timer, they wait till next time). It goes in a cyle determined by the map NOT the server.
Tip: The Baikal Shotgun can be changed to double shot mode, by pressing the fire mode toggle key (default C) this makes it fire both barrels at once, for longer range and power. Sounds simple but alot of people don't notice this!
Hope this has helped you in some way :)
